Save-A-Lot Food Stores Help Pacific Northwest Families by Providing Free Groceries at Area Stores, Make Matching Contribution to Regional Food Banks

EARTH CITY, Mo., Feb. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In the Pacific Northwest, foreclosures, job losses and requests for emergency food continue to reach record levels. On Saturday, Feb. 28 from 8:00 a.m. until noon, Save-A-Lot Food Stores will do its part to help alleviate the pressure by providing free groceries at all nine Pacific Northwest stores. Residents who visit a participating Save-A-Lot Food Store location during the "Fuel Your Family for Free" event will receive the ingredients to prepare a hot spaghetti dinner. In addition, Save-A-Lot will make a matching contribution to regional Feeding America food banks.

The Fuel Your Family for Free program was conceived in response to Save-A-Lot Food Stores' dedication to helping Pacific Northwest families by offering cost-saving meal solutions. At the same time, the company recognizes that many Northwest residents are going back to the basics, looking to eating healthier and consuming more meals at home.

Enough Groceries to Supply 4,000

Groceries will be provided on a first-come first-serve basis and will be distributed by way of a voucher system for those who come to the store on Saturday, Feb. 28, between 8:00 a.m. and noon. Shoppers can also visit http://www.fuelyourfamilyforfree.com/ to download a voucher. There is no purchase necessary.

Each shopper receives: -- 1 jar of Pastapali pasta sauce -- 1 box of Del Pino's Spaghetti noodles -- 2 cans of Wylwood vegetables (of customers' choosing) -- 1 package of Grissom's Brown & Serve Garlic Bread Sticks -- 1 eco tote bag Matching Donation to Local Food Bank

At the conclusion of Feed Your Family For Free, Save-A-Lot Food Stores will tally the total number of dinners contributed and make a matching donation to regional Feeding America partners, including Oregon Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Food LifeLine. These partners will then distribute the meals to local food banks, shelters and hunger relief centers surrounding the participating Save-A-Lot store locations.
