AVIATION WEEK to Provide Official Workforce Study for Aerospace & Defense Industry

NEW YORK, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- AVIATION WEEK, the largest multimedia information and services provider to the global aviation, aerospace and defense (A&D) industries, today announced that it will work with three industry associations-- Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA)-- to provide the official Workforce Study for the A&D industry in 2009. A mainstay for A&D planning and trend analysis since 1997, the Workforce Study results will appear in the August 24-31, 2009 double issue of Aviation Week & Space Technology.

Sponsored by Hitachi Consulting, the AVIATION WEEK Workforce Study serves as a single source of reliable data for the A&D industry that can be used to analyze current workforce issues, trends and opportunities in the areas of recruitment, retention, retirement, compensation, diversity, performance, professional development, and open positions. With the current economic environment, this year's report will also seek to identify new methods for balancing the need for a high talent workforce with cost pressures that are forcing job cuts.

"Our industry's increasingly competitive environment demands that we keep up with changing trends to optimize our workforce," said Tom Henricks, president of AVIATION WEEK. "The 13th annual AVIATION WEEK Workforce Study will provide essential intelligence for A&D leaders, managers and employees, and we are pleased to be working with the industry's top organizations to that end."

2009 Workforce Study Advisory Board members include Dr. Wanda Austin, CEO, The Aerospace Corp.; Marion Blakey, CEO, AIA; Paul Graziani, CEO, Analytical Graphics Inc.; Greg Hamilton, Publisher, AVIATION WEEK; Walter B. Havenstein, CEO, BAE Systems N.A.; Ed Hoffman, Director - Academy of Program/Project Engineering Leadership, NASA; Lee Palmer, Managing Vice President, Hitachi Consulting's Aerospace & Defense Practice; Robert Stevens, CEO, Lockheed Martin Corp.; Ed Swallow, Chairman, STEM Workforce Div., National Defense Industrial Assoc.; and David Thompson, CEO, Orbital Sciences, and Chairman, AIAA.
