Charlie Brown Is Honored for His Ongoing Contribution to the Burn Institute
Charlie Brown, a Viejas Tribal Member and Director of Viejas Community Relations, was awarded the Health Hero Award by the Combined Health Agencies for his contributions to the local health industry and community activism.
Brown, nominated on behalf of the Burn Institute, has devoted the majority of his life to serving others. He has been an advocate and strong supporter of the Burn Institute for over a decade. During that time, he has been instrumental in achieving and sustaining support, increasing visibility and keeping a close relationship with the organization. In keeping with Kumeyaay tradition of giving back to the community, Brown is personally involved in many community organizations and events throughout the year where he can often be found donating his time and resources to worthy causes. Because of his support, and the support of the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, many thousands of people in San Diego have benefitted from this generosity.
“I am extremely honored to receive this award. Giving back to the community has always been an ongoing mission for me, and the Viejas tribe. Working with the Burn Institute, and the many other organizations I am involved with, has been a very fulfilling experience, and I look forward to continuing that partnership,” said Brown.
“The work that Charlie has done in the San Diego community exemplifies the hard work and generosity of the Viejas Tribe,” said Viejas Tribal Chairman, Bobby L. Barrett. “By being a leader on our community, he is setting a wonderful example for future leaders.”
At the award breakfast held at the Prado Grand Ballroom in Balboa Park, 22 other local businesses, doctors, researchers and individuals were honored on behalf of the agencies to which they have devoted their time and talents.
