Bahía Beach Resort & Golf Club, Puerto Rico’s first five-star-quality resort community, has been designated a Certified Gold Audubon International Signature Sanctuary.
Signature certification is awarded to developments which are designed, constructed and maintained according to Audubon International’s precise planning standards and strict environmental criteria.
Bahía Beach Resort & Golf Club is the first community in Puerto Rico to receive the honor. Only 79 developments have achieved the Signature Certification worldwide.
“We are committed to sustainable development and preserving our natural wonders,” said Federico J. Sánchez-Ortiz, president of Interlink Group, LLC, the developers of Bahía Beach. “Not because it keeps the community beautiful - because it’s the right thing to do.”
Audubon International Signature Programs were created for resort projects in the development stages. “Through these programs we work with landowners from the design stages through construction and then in establishing a maintenance program focused on sustainability,” said Nancy Richardson, Director of Audubon International Signature Programs.
Bahía Beach Resort & Golf Club is taking shape along two miles of scenic beach, within view of El Yunque National Rainforest. The community is home to a variety of animal inhabitants including snook and tarpon, frigate birds, pelicans, palm trees, golden leather ferns, West Indian whistling ducks, iguanas and many species of songbirds. The Espiritu Santo River, which borders the property, originates in the majestic El Yunque Rainforest and ends at Bahía Beach.
Bahía Beach Resort & Golf Club is located 25 minutes from San Juan’s International Airport. St. Regis Hotels & Resorts will operate the Resort & Residences that will include 139 junior suites and one-bedroom units with ocean views, as well as the services of the St. Regis Butler®, a world-class Remèdesm Spa, oceanfront swimming pools, an award-winning 18-hold Robert Trent Jones, Jr. golf course with a beachfront clubhouse, a 120 seat Jean-Georges Signature Restaurant and Bahía Village, the community’s seaside enclave of shops and restaurants.
