Washington State Educators to Attend Educational Technology Seminars / Participants will learn how to use digital media to engage students in learning

SILVER SPRING, Md., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Next week, educators from across the state will volunteer their time to attend a series of informative seminars and learn how to integrate digital media and technology into their classroom instruction. Held in four locations, these professional development seminars will be presented by Puyallup School District, Lake Washington School District, North Central Educational Service District 171, and Northwest Educational Service District 189, in partnership with Discovery Education.

During the seminars, educators will learn from national experts how to engage their students in learning through the implementation of educational technologies and streaming digital content. Participants will learn techniques for searching, streaming and downloading digital media from the Internet, and best practices for integrating this content into their curriculum. In addition, educators will take part in a variety of workshops on the latest educational technologies, including streaming media, podcasts, blogs, and wikis.

"We're excited to host this event and help teachers expand their skills in designing relevant, engaging learning experiences for our 21st century learners," said Sandra Jacobson, director of education technology for Puyallup School District. "It's an exciting opportunity for our teachers to have Discovery Education bring this high-quality professional development event to Washington state."

Classroom teachers, technology coordinators, school administrators, and media/technology support staff from across the state are invited to attend these seminars, which are offered at no cost in support of the integration of media and technology into classroom instruction.

"Advocating for innovative educational programs that empower educators to improve student achievement is the core of our mission," said Pete Phillips, director of technology for North Central Educational Service District 171. "Professional development seminars like these help our teachers prepare students for successful lives beyond the four walls of their school. We hope to replicate this model of training in the future."

Following this event, participants will continue to be supported in their efforts to improve student achievement with digital media and technology by the Discovery Educator Network (DEN). The DEN is a global community of 88,000 active educators passionate about integrating media and technology into classroom curriculum. DEN members have free access to a wide range of technology training, as well as a resource library of teacher-generated projects and tools.
