Belo Corp. (BLC) Names Weir General Manager/Interactive

DALLAS, May 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Belo Corp. , one of the nation's largest pure-play, publicly-traded television companies, announced today that it has named Joe Darren Weir general manager/Interactive. In this role, Weir will join Belo's Television Operations group, setting strategic objectives for the Company's Web sites and leading the execution of new product launches. In addition, he will direct existing sales initiatives and work collaboratively with the Company's Web site developers to achieve revenue goals. He will report to Kathy Clements, Belo's senior vice president/Television Operations.

"Joe brings years of interactive insight and a thorough knowledge of the Company's online and television operations to this position," said Clements. "His excellent communication skills and the many positive relationships he has developed during his 13 years with Belo will serve him well in this new role."

Weir is currently director/Digital Media for WFAA-TV in Dallas/Fort Worth with oversight of interactive sales and news operations. He joined WFAA in March 2005 as interactive manager/Sales. Prior to joining WFAA, he was senior online account executive/Sales for Belo Interactive from 2000 - 2005. He joined Belo in 1996 and held various sales positions until 2000.

In 2008, WFAA.com was awarded the prestigious Edward R. Murrow National Award for Most Innovative Television Web site (Large Market) in the country. Weir has received numerous sales awards during his career at Belo including: Top Online Sales Achiever (2001 - 2003) and Belo's Chairman Award (2002).

Weir holds a B.A. from Hardin-Simmons University. He has served on several boards at the University including the Board of Young Associates where he was President (2003-2004) and the Alumni Board of Directors (2000). Currently, he serves on the Board of Development as the Chairman of the Media Advisory Committee. In April, he received the "Distinguished Young Alumni" award from Hardin-Simmons University.
