The patents involved in the dispute included U.S. Patent Nos. 6,542,114, 6,765,484, and 6,940,392. These patents cover Savi's unique Low-Frequency Wakeup technology which provides extended battery life and improved location capabilities for active RFID devices. Savi contended in the lawsuit that AeroScout infringed these patents.

Savi Technology holds 29 patents around wireless data communications and ten companies have licensed portions of this portfolio on a Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory (RAND) basis. Savi's patents have also been incorporated into the ISO 18000-7 standard for active RFID which is mandated by the U.S. Department of Defense, allied defense forces, and growing numbers of commercial companies.

"Savi Technology invests a significant amount of its capital and resources in research and development for RFID-based innovations and has secured patents for many of these innovations," said David Stephens, CEO of Savi Technology. "It is vital that our licensees have confidence that we will stand behind our intellectual property and that we will aggressively protect our patent rights to ensure standards-based interoperability throughout the world."

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin , Savi Technology is a leading provider of real-time supply chain information and technology solutions and services.
