Lance Introduces First Ever 100 Calorie Pouch and Whole Grain Sandwich Crackers
America’s favorite sandwich cracker just got a little better. In response to consumer desired nutritional changes, Lance has recently announced a variety of new sandwich cracker products and ingredient changes.
New this spring are the following:
- 100 calorie sandwich cracker pouches available with either real peanut butter or real cheese
- Replacement of wheat sandwich crackers with whole grain
- Removal of high-fructose corn syrup from all Lance sandwich crackers
“We know moms play many different roles in the family, including food negotiator. Our research shows moms want a filling snack they can feel good about giving their family and that their family will eat,” said Tom Ingram, Brand Director, Lance Snacks. “Our new products and ingredient changes are just some of the little things we do so Lance sandwich crackers can be part of a wholesome lunch or snack for the entire family.”
100 Calorie Pouches
Baked fresh with real cheese or 100%
Lance-made peanut butter, the 100 calorie pouches are a good-tasting and
sensible snacking option for families and individuals looking for a
portion-controlled snacking alternative that still fills them up.
The 100 calorie pouches are available in the three most popular Lance sandwich cracker varieties:
- ToastChee® Peanut Butter: 100% Lance-made creamy peanut butter layered on mini-baked, cheese-flavored crackers.
- Toasty™ Peanut Butter: 100% Lance-made creamy peanut butter layered on mini-baked, butter-flavored crackers.
- NipChee™ Cheddar Cheese: real cheddar cheese layered on mini-baked, cheese-flavored crackers.
From Wheat to Whole Grain
Consumers have recently shown a
growing interest in whole grain products. In keeping with this trend,
Lance is replacing its wheat sandwich crackers with whole grain sandwich
crackers - just one more example of how Lance strives to provide
sensible snacks that are good in so many ways.
As part of the switch from wheat to whole grain, Lance is replacing its Swiss on Wheat with Sharp Cheddar Cheese on Whole Grain. Other whole grain varieties include: Real Peanut Butter on Whole Grain and Real Cheddar Cheese on Whole Grain.
Removal of High-Fructose Corn Syrup
Lance is a leader in the
sandwich cracker category when it comes to making consumer-desired
nutritional changes, such as being among the first snack food
manufacturers to remove lard from its entire product line in 1988 and
trans fat in 2004.
All Lance sandwich cracker varieties are baked fresh with real cheese or peanut butter, and no preservatives or trans fat. Now Lance sandwich crackers are better than ever with the December 2008 removal of high-fructose corn syrup from all 13 varieties of its sandwich crackers.
High-fructose corn syrup has been under increased scrutiny from consumers and nutritional professionals alike with allegations about a potential link to the rise in type 2 diabetes, obesity and other health problems. While the science behind these allegations remains under examination, Lance decided to remove the ingredient entirely.
The new 100 calorie pouch products and whole grain sandwich crackers are coming to store shelves this spring. A box of six 100 calorie pouches of ToastChee® Peanut Butter, Toasty™ Peanut Butter or NipChee™ Cheddar Cheese retail around $2.99. A homepack of eight single serve whole grain sandwich crackers retails around $2.99. Varieties and prices may differ among retailers.
