The U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC), under the leadership of its Chairman, Indra K. Nooyi, will celebrate 34 years as the premier business advocacy organization promoting U.S.-India commercial ties by hosting India’s Union Minister of Commerce & Industry,Shri Anand Sharma, together with a constellation of U.S. Cabinet Secretaries, including Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke, and the new U.S. Trade Representative, Ambassador Ron Kirk. USIBC will felicitate private sector icons Azim Premji and Anil Ambani, together with Sy Sternberg. The two-day “Synergies Summit”, scheduled June 16/17 in Washington, D.C. will focus on the opportunities that will flow from inherent synergies bolstering the world’s two largest free-market democracies.
“With the historic elections in both countries now behind us, USIBC aims to ‘bang the pots and pans’ and awake both governments as to the real work that now needs to be completed in order to keep the U.S.-India commercial and trade relationship flourishing,” said Ron Somers, President of USIBC.
“USIBC’s 34th Anniversary 'Synergies Summit' will be closely watched and widely attended by individuals and organizations who can help the U.S.-India relationship regain the high ground, which we have all worked so hard to achieve,” Somers said. Already 350 business leaders have registered for attendance, including a high-level Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) executive mission being led by CII’s new President, Venu Srinivasan and CII’s Chief Mentor, Tarun Das.
Icons from the private sector will be accorded USIBC’s highest honors for their Global Vision, Global Leadership, and Business Excellence at USIBC’s 34th Anniversary “Synergies Summit”.

Inaugurating this star-studded event on June 16th at Washington’s newest building, The Newseum, Slumdog Millionaire author Vikas Swarup will receive USIBC’s 34th Anniversary Award for “Cultural Ties That Bind” for the author’s contribution illuminating aspects of society that facilitate a deeper understanding and abiding respect for humanity. Sarod Maestro Aashish Khan will then share the traditions of Indian culture, emphasizing the synergies of friendship that connect our peoples.
