Verizon FiOS TV Customers Cruise Through Digital Transition / Day-Long Activity Assured New Signals Reach FiOS Customers Loud and Clear

NEW YORK, June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- As local television stations nationwide made the final transition from analog to all-digital transmissions and migrated systems to new equipment, Verizon engineers worked to assure a smooth transition for Verizon FiOS TV customers.

Video feeds from more than 270 local stations into Verizon's all-fiber-optic, all-digital network were all completed and cross-checked by early Saturday (June 13). Verizon planners and technicians worked with each local station to assure that the station's feeds into the Verizon network were correct and that the new digital signals were being received by Verizon's equipment.

"Careful planning and a lot of communication with engineers at the individual stations made the transition day easy for us and led to a smooth transition for our customers," said Tom Romano, project manager for Verizon. "For roughly 56 stations, we needed to actually take action in our video hub offices to channel the stations' signals onto our networks. And in all cases, our customers experienced no problems with their service as a result of linkages between the stations and our network."

There are various methods for local station feeds to enter the Verizon network. Verizon carefully planned and prepared for each station's situation, and worked with the stations on timing. As a result, the process was simplified, and everything was ready ahead of time.
