In the new U.S.News & World Report publication of America's Best Children’s Hospitals 2009, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford has again been ranked one of the nation’s best.
In its annual America’s Best Children’s Hospitals issue online today at usnews.com/childrenshospitals,U.S.News places Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital #5 in the programs heart and heart surgery, and neonatal care. Additionally, six other programs made the U.S.News Top 20, including cancer, diabetes and endocrine disorders, digestive disorders, kidney disorders, respiratory disorders, and neurology and neurosurgery.
Christopher Dawes, president and chief executive officer at Packard Children’s, is proud of the recognition. “Making the U.S.News list is a major accomplishment that we never take for granted. It reflects what our faculty and staff have built and continue to build - one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals.” The U.S.News honor adds to a growing list of recent highlights for Packard Children’s, including:
* Debut of a new, state-of-the-art, 20-bed cardiovascular intensive care unit.
* Premiere of the Ford Family Surgery Center, the most technologically-advanced pediatric surgery suite on the West Coast.
* The growth of our pediatric liver transplant program into the largest and most successful in the U.S.
* Opening of the Bass Center for Pediatric Cancer and Blood Diseases.
* Development of a prenatal test for Down Syndrome that’s less risky than amniocentesis.
The specialty rankings of this year’s America’s Best Children’s Hospitals survey were based on a methodology that weighed a blend of reputation, outcome, and care-related measures such as volume, nursing care, advanced technology, credentialing, and other factors. A detailed description of the methodology can be found online at http://health.usnews.com/articles/health/best-childrens-hospitals/2009/06/17/behind-the-best-childrens-hospitals-rankings.html.
“From physicians to nurses to technicians and volunteers, everyone on our staff is committed to outstanding patient care,” said Dawes. “The U.S.Newsranking is a testament to this work, and we’re thrilled to be recognized this way.”
