Sponsored by Adaptive Curriculum, state leaders from the Arizona Department of Education and technology education experts from Arizona State University will present funding updates and introduce the new national educational technology standards on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at ASU SkySong in Scottsdale.
Middle school principals, district administrators, technology directors and Title I directors throughout Maricopa County are invited to this free presentation, which includes dinner provided by one of ASU SkySong’s primary tenants, eLearning company Sebit, LLC, who makes Adaptive Curriculum, the world’s most innovative Web-based math and science lessons. ASU SkySong is an innovation center designed to help companies grow by providing business services and programs offered or facilitated by Arizona State University.
Featured presenters include Cathy Poplin, Arizona Department of Education; ASU Professor Helen Padgett, Director of Professional Development and Research for Technology Based Learning and Research, and President of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE); and ASU President’s Professor Emeritus Alice Christie.
“This dinner and presentation is a unique opportunity for middle school leaders and district leaders to learn how to acquire new and emerging technologies, create new state-of-the-art learning environments, and offer professional development for teachers so that students acquire the technological skills that will lead to student academic achievement,” said Helen Padgett, Director of Professional Development and Research for Technology Based Learning and Research for ASU.
In addition, Padgett said, the stimulus funding update will provide information on the delivery of the unprecedented resources to states and school districts from the U.S. Department of Education. She describes the update as important for district level instructional leaders “who can take advantage of an opportunity to develop a plan that will drive improvements for years to come.”
Seating for the dinner is limited to 125 school leaders who RSVP by Friday, September 11, 2009 by 5:00 p.m. Some seats are still available. For more information or to RSVP, please call 480-884-1563 or send an email to charla.bennett@adaptivecurriculum.com.
