Every Pound Lost Will Feed One Child, for One Day
Pastor Chris Sonksen of South Hills is launching an innovative series starting September 19th called “Lose to Win,” during which he and his congregation will spend 6 weeks losing weight in order to better themselves and the community. Convoy of Hope, a non profit organization that works with disaster relief and those in need across the United States and around the world, has agreed to feed one kid, for one day, for every pound lost by South Hills.
The innovative partnership between South Hill and Convoy of Hope, has gained support from local businesses wanting to sponsor the series “Lose to Win.” These sponsors include 24 Hour Fitness, Nutrishop, Weight Watchers, Ortiz Chiropractic, Oggi’s, Tutti Frutti, Flame Broiler, and Mi Tortilla. This series is designed to address six areas of a person’s life; physical, emotional spiritual, financial, mental and relational. With a congregation of 2,500 people and the church’s desire to involve the community to join the cause and weigh-in on September 19th- 20th; the goal of losing at least 50,000 pounds by the October 25th is attainable. This effort translates to 50,000 kids being fed in the Inland Empire and around the world.
This is a winning proposition for all those involved; the congregation to grow, sponsors to promote their products, a healthy way of living for the participants and those in need will receive a meal. Pastor/Speaker and Author Jason Harper stated, “I am continually impressed with Pastor Chris’ creativity in connecting the church and the community to real life issues.”
