Citizens for Health (www.citizens.org) will host a press conference at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Monday, September 14th entitled “Living with Brain Cancer,” immediately following Senate hearings on “The Health Effects of Cell Phone Use” organized by Sen. Arlen Specter. The Senate hearings, which will start at 2 p.m. in the Dirksen Senate Building, Room 138, will occur during the landmark, 3-day “International Expert Conference on Cell Phones and Health” being held in Washington, D.C. (www.environmentalhealthtrust.org), organized by Devra Davis, PhD, MPH of the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health.
Three individuals with experience living with brain cancer will be available to talk with the media about their personal experiences with this ravaging disease and the need for U.S. involvement in protecting the public’s health from the effects of cell phone radiation. They will be accompanied by public health advocates, Jim Turner, Esq., Chairman of Citizens for Health, and Camilla Rees, Founder of www.ElectromagneticHealth.org, co-author of “Public Health SOS: The Shadow Side of the Wireless Revolution,” co-authorof the new report, “Cellphones and Brain Tumors: 15 Reasons for Concern” and EMF Advisor to Citizens for Health.
L. Lloyd Morgan, B.Sc. is a brain tumor survivor. He is also a Member of the Bioelectromagnetics Society (see www.bioelectromagnetics.org) and the Brain Tumor Epidemiology Consortium (http://epi.grants.cancer.gov/btec/). He has been an author on 3 peer review science papers on the risk of brain tumors and other cancers from exposure to electromagnetic fields. He was author of two legislative Acts concerning brain tumors and currently has another Bill in Congress, the National Childhood Brain Tumor Prevention Network Act (HR 653; S 305). Lloyd is lead author of the new report, “Cellphones and Brain Tumors: 15 Reasons for Concern, Science, Spin and the Truth Behind Interphone” (http://sn.im/qxkh2).
Ellie Marks is the wife of brain tumor patient, Alan Marks, who was a heavy cell phone user for 20 years. Last September she testified at hearings in the House of Representatives organized by Congressman Dennis Kucinich. Ellie will talk about the effects from her husband’s malignant glioma on her family—emotionally, financially and interpersonally. She started the California Brain Tumor Association (www.cabta.org) and speaks publically concerning the health risks of cell phones.
Teresa Marie Gregorio is a brain tumor patient, diagnosed with an Astrocytoma Grade 3. At a new job in Fairfax, VA, she experienced 5 seizures within 45 minutes. She returned home to Seattle, WA to be under the care of her mother, and had a craniotomy with resection, which removed 75% of the tumor. She also received a new diagnosis, Oligodendraglioma Grade 2. This was followed by 27 rounds of radiation. Teresa says she hopes to be one of the “lucky ones who make it at least five years”. Teresa opened The Gregorio Foundation to financially assist brain tumor patients.
