Greene Broillet & Wheeler announced today that partner Christine D. Spagnoli was named by the Daily Journal Corporation as one of the Top 100 Most Influential California Lawyers in the September 23, 2009 issue of its Daily Journal legal newspaper. This is the third year that Ms. Spagnoli has received this distinguished honor.
Each year, the Daily Journal considers thousands of nominations before choosing its Top 100 list, focusing on those attorneys who make a difference in the legal community and beyond. Ms. Spagnoli was recognized for her exceptional skills as a plaintiff’s trial lawyer and for the commanding role that she has played in resolving tired tread separation lawsuits against such companies as Cooper Tire, Goodyear Tire and Firestone Tire. For example, she served as Plaintiffs’ Liaison Counsel for all cases against Cooper Tire filed in California State Court for tread separation defects in tires manufactured by Cooper.
Ms. Spagnoli’s strong leadership role on behalf of the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) has also been noteworthy and a reason for her selection to the Daily Journal Top 100 list this year. In 2008 as CAOC President-Elect and Legislative Chair, Ms. Spagnoli spent countless hours in assisting candidates who were running for election to the state legislature, the United States Senate and the Presidency of the United States in both the primary and general elections.
As the current CAOC President, Ms. Spagnoli continues to proactively advocate on behalf of consumers. In April 2009, she led plaintiffs attorneys from around the state at a CAOC “Lobby Day” gathering in Sacramento to raise awareness about the fact that special interest lobbyists have been using the economic downturn as cover for trying to pass agendas that are anti-consumer, anti-patient, anti-worker and anti-environment. Importantly, her message was to remind legislators why a fair legal system is so important and why the CAOC is committed to using its resources to fight and protect it.
Ms. Spagnoli played a key role in compelling New GM and New Chrysler to be accountable for defects in cars that were sold by the companies before the bankruptcy filings that, had they prevailed, would have otherwise allowed them to shirk responsibility for wrongful deaths and personal injuries in vehicles made prior to bankruptcy.
Earlier this year, Ms. Spagnoli was named to the Daily Journal’s “Top Women Litigators” list, making it her seventh appearance on this distinguished list of California’s most prominent women litigators.
