Internet fax service solves dilemma of how to fax without phone lines after moving to VoIP
When the Bergeron Companies decided to move from standard telephone services to Voice over IP (VoIP) to save money and smooth communications between its headquarters and remote offices, the decision created a dilemma: there would no longer be phone lines to connect to fax machines. Moving to an Internet fax service seemed to be the best fit, particularly for an organization already relying heavily on Internet technologies. After weighing the alternatives COO Katie Bergeron Peglow selected MyFax.
The Bergeron Companies encompasses three brands under its umbrella: Adaptivemall.com, Special Tomato, and Keekaroo. As the company has grown it has opened remote offices. This distributed nature has been the driving force behind its adoption of VoIP and other Internet technologies - including MyFax.
“MyFax has made sending and receiving faxes very easy,” Peglow said. “They’re no longer tied to a fax machine in one location. When someone sends me a fax it goes straight to my email inbox. If I need to forward it I can do it as easily as I would any other email, and it doesn’t lose quality like it used to when it would bounce from fax machine to fax machine.”
Peglow sends and receives roughly 15 to 20 faxed pages per week. Typically the documents are a 401(k) request that requires her signature, a notice of change in government regulations for the products they sell, specs for a special product or even a sales order.
“They’re things that can’t wait, even if I’m on vacation,” she said. “MyFax makes it easy to take care of them. As long as there’s an Internet connection available you can keep things moving. For a small company like ours, that’s important.”
In addition to solving the “faxing while using VoIP” issue, Bergeron Companies realized additional benefits - not the least of which is cost savings. The company is no longer paying for fax machines that need to be replaced every year or so, the toner they consume, or dedicated phone lines. They’ve also greatly reduced paper consumption since faxes are sent and received electronically.
“We’ve been with MyFax for four years,” Peglow said. “That says a lot about what we think of the service, and how important it is to our business.”
