New Requirements for Use of Federal Facilities Adds to Complexity of Setting Up Successful Conferences and Workshops
Outreach Process Partners’ Conference and Outreach Manager Rebecca Blankenship recently received Certified Government Meeting Professional (CGMP) credentials from the Society of Government Meeting Professionals. For OPP’s Federal government accounts, Becky plans conferences, workshops, executive retreats and special events across the United States.
She is currently planning the 2010 annual conference for a Federal government program. This 2.5 day conference will include workshops afterward.
This project involves:
- Locating a venue, including in-depth research of Federal locations in the mid-west
- Negotiating with suppliers
- Coordinating the agenda and soliciting speakers abstracts, bios and presentations
- Setting up an on-line registration tool
- Promoting the event to local, regional, state and private-sector stakeholders and the media
- Preparing all materials and signage
- Managing all on-site support during the conference event, including participant poster displays and an awards program
- Evaluating results including attendance and participant feedback
For the American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA)-a Washington, DC-based trade association, Becky planned numerous meetings, including executive retreats each year for the Board of Directors. She also planned the ANLA Summer Leadership Meeting in DC. Becky was staff photographer during events as well.
Becky and her team led a nine-month campaign promoting the ANLA Management Clinic that resulted in a 38% increase in meeting attendance-breaking a six-year trend of "low" attendance. She helped secure more than $100,000 in print and electronic ads, free-of-charge, by creating meaningful content and "catchy" promotional advertisements.
Becky earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts with a public relations emphasis and minor in marketing from Salisbury University in Maryland. She is a member of the Society of Government Meeting Professionals and the Professional Convention Management Association.
