Free rides for all will kick off the dedication of Sun Valley Resort's new Roundhouse Gondola during a Winter Expo and Gondola 'Ganza Saturday, November 21 at 11 a.m. MT.
The grand opening festivities will launch Sun Valley's 74th ski season which officially opens Thanksgiving Day.
Nine Sun Valley Olympians, spanning 50 years of Olympic Games, are expected to be some of the first to take the eight-minute ride in the eight-passenger gondola, which will rise nearly 2,000 feet to the historic Roundhouse Restaurant. They include Betty Bell, 1952 U.S. Olympic Ski Team; Dates Fryberger, 1964 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team; Terry Palmer, 1972 U.S. Olympic Ski Team; Tyler Palmer, 1972 U.S. Olympic Ski Team; Maria Maricich, 1984 U.S. Olympic Ski Team; Reggie Crist, 1992 U.S. Olympic Ski Team; Sondra Van Ert, 1998 U.S. Olympic Ski Team; Muffy Davis, 2001-02 two-time Overall World Cup Paralympian Champion; and Jon Engen, 1956 U.S. Olympic Ski Team (Nordic).
The day's festivities also will include a foot/snowshoe race, a Jib Park preview, "A Taste of the Mountain," presented by Sun Valley mountain lodge chefs, in addition to Sun Valley Ski Patrol and Mountain Department demonstrations and free hot chocolate and cider.
