The Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America is a nonprofit national voluntary health charity dedicated to controlling asthma and allergic diseases for millions of sufferers. The California Chapter of AAFA was established in 1976 and is the largest in the nationwide network. AAFA's mission is to educate individuals and organizations on steps that can be taken to improve sufferers' quality of life; to support medical research and specialized training for the health care community; to increase public awareness of the severity of asthma and allergic diseases; and to provide medication and treatment to the underserved.
AAFA's premiere programs are the Breathmobile®, an "asthma clinic on wheels," that provides free diagnosis, treatment, medications and education for children with asthma at their school site. With more than 12 Breathmobiles® throughout California, they currently visit over 300 elementary, middle, and high schools as well as several comprehensive health clinics throughout the region. AAFA also provides a free week-long asthma summer camp for children ages 8-14 with asthma, as well as an Air Power Games program that provides a track and field day for children with asthma and allergies, allowing them the chance to compete in athletics and learn how to excel despite their condition.
