Oelde/Fort Lauderdale, December 1, 2009 - Following its launch yesterday,
the world's largest passenger liner, the 'Oasis of the Seas', has set sail
from Fort Lauderdale on its maiden voyage. The 360-meter long luxury liner,
which was built in Finland, uses GEA's versatile separator technology for
heavy oil and lubricating oil recovery and for bilge water purification.
GEA's products make a significant contribution to the operating reliability
and environmental compatibility of the giant cruise liner, which weighs
over 225,000 gross registered tonnes (GRT) and has room for 5,400
passengers. In addition to the 'Oasis of the Seas', GEA will also equip its
sister vessel, the 'Allure of the Seas', with the same separator
technology. This second liner is currently under construction, and is due
to be taken into service at the end of 2010.
In addition to size and capacity, energy consumption played a key role in
the design of the ships. Care was taken to ensure that the components used
in all areas represent the state of the art in terms of environmental
protection, and that they ensure the efficient use of energy and raw
materials. This was also a key criterion when selecting the separator
technology supplier, alongside maximum reliability and limited space
requirements, and led overall to GEA's technology being chosen. For each
ship, the company supplies six separators for heavy oil recovery, six
separators for lubricating oil recovery for the three main drives and three
auxiliary drives, and one special separator for bilge water purification.
GEA has extensive experience of the challenges associated with supplying
components for shipbuilding. In addition to separators, the company
supplies a wide range of heat exchangers for use in lubricant cooling and
as charge-air coolers for the engines, as well as chillers for cool stores
and cold stores, among other things, and air conditioning equipment for
function rooms and private cabins.
GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft is one of the largest system providers for
food and energy processes with about EUR 5.2 billion in 2008 revenue. As an
internationally operating technology group, the company focuses on process
technology and components for demanding production processes in various end

long-term growing food and energy industries. As of September 30, 2009, a

Group is a market and technology leader in 90 percent of its business
