International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges announced today that Barry Wolf has been elected to the firm's Executive Partner position. Working in tandem with key leaders throughout the firm, he will assume responsibility for the formulation, coordination, and implementation of Weil Gotshal's strategic and business initiatives and overseeing the global operations of the 1,300-lawyer firm. Mr. Wolf, who will be the firm's chief executive, will balance these responsibilities with representing a large and growing client roster of top names in the private equity arena. The new role becomes effective January 1, 2010.
Mr. Wolf began his career at Weil Gotshal in 1984 as an associate in the firm's Tax Department and was elected to the partnership in 1992. Mr. Wolf helped to create and lead Weil Gotshal's immensely successful Private Equity practice group. In 2005, Mr. Wolf was named co-chairman of the firm's Corporate Department, a position he will relinquish upon assuming the Executive Partner role.
"The Firm today has an impressive platform of practices across the globe which position us as a leader in the industry, and I look forward in my new role in helping guide our Firm's further success in the future," said Mr. Wolf. "Our firm has always had exceptional leadership, and I am thankful for having had mentors like Steve Dannhauser and others to help prepare me for this role."
"For many years, I have watched Barry grow and develop into a firm leader," said Weil Gotshal Chairman Stephen Dannhauser, "I can think of no better partner to assume this role and responsibility. He has been deeply involved with firm-wide strategic issues for many years, and I am delighted with this choice."
Mr. Dannhauser will remain as the firm's Chairman and a member of its management committee and will be charged with helping the firm develop and grow new and existing client relationships across several practice areas, as he has during his 20-year tenure as the firm's chief executive. In addition to his continued efforts in helping to build the firm's international client base and platform, Mr. Dannhauser will remain dedicated to raising the firm's profile in the public at large. Over the past 20 years, Weil Gotshal has grown from five U.S. offices with 500 lawyers to an international firm in 20 cities, with 1,300 lawyers.
