CHS Director Duane Stenzel Dies

ST. PAUL, Minn., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Long-time CHS Inc. director Duane Stenzel of Wells, Minn., died Saturday, Dec. 12 from complications of cancer. He was 63.

Stenzel had served as a director for the leading energy, grains and foods cooperative since 1993.

"CHS, the cooperative system and agriculture have lost a dedicated individual who helped guide this system to new growth and success during his 17-year tenure," CHS Chairman Michael Toelle said. "In addition to his many contributions to CHS, Duane was deeply committed to the future of agriculture, particularly young people, through his work with the CHS Foundation."

Stenzel most recently was a member of the CHS board's Audit Committee and was the chairman of the CHS Foundation Finance and Investment Committee. Previously, he was chairman of the former CHS Oilseed Processing and Refining Defined Member Board.

He was active in a wide range of agricultural and cooperative organizations, was a member of WFS and Greenway cooperatives, and served as board president and secretary for Wells Farmers Elevator. In addition to his cooperative work, Stenzel raised 800 acres of soybeans, sweet corn and corn near Wells in south central Minnesota, acreage that included land homesteaded by his great-grandfather more than 100 years ago.

Stenzel is survived by his wife, Mary, three children and their spouses, and eight grandchildren.

Services are set for Thursday morning, Dec. 17 at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Wells, with visitation Wednesday evening, Dec. 16 at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home, Wells.
