Former Commander in Chief Honored by the Army's Freedom Team Salute
The U.S. Army honored former President Chief George W. Bush with a Freedom Team Salute Supporter Commendation this past weekend at the 38th Safari Club International Annual Convention in Reno, Nevada. Bush delivered the keynote address on Saturday evening to thousands of convention attendees.
Freedom Team Salute honored Bush for his ongoing support of the Army and the Army's mission during a commendation ceremony on Saturday afternoon in front of a large crowd in the convention's exhibit hall. Freedom Team Salute also recognized seven Army Veterans who served post-Vietnam through Desert Shield/Desert Storm with Veterans Commendations and two Army Supporters at the Safari Club's Veterans Rendezvous Breakfast.
Safari Club International is an international organization composed of hunters and has more than 50,000 members and 180 local chapters. Safari Club International Foundation, the 501 (C) 3 branch of Safari Club International, funds and manages worldwide programs dedicated to wildlife conservation, outdoor education, and humanitarian services.
The U.S. Army's Freedom Team Salute program was established in 2005 by the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff to give the public the opportunity to thank all U.S. Army Veterans for their service by recognizing them with Commendations. The Commendations consist of a personalized letter and certificate signed by the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff. Honorees also receive an official Army lapel pin. Freedom Team Salute also honors and recognizes the Parents, Spouse, Supporters, and Employers of Active Duty, Army Reserve, and National Guard Soldiers.
