Cole Real Estate Investments (Cole) announced today that Rick Lavin has joined the company as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Capital Markets. In this role, Mr. Lavin will be responsible for all legal, regulatory and compliance functions on the distribution side of Cole's business. He will also play a key role in investment product structuring and oversight, distribution channel strategy and corporate governance for Cole's public company programs.
"Rick joins us with 30 years of legal experience focused in securities regulation and the retail financial services industry, and has provided extensive strategic oversight and direction to executives, attorneys and compliance professionals throughout his career," said Marc Nemer, President of Capital Markets. Prior to joining Cole, Mr. Lavin held senior executive positions at several financial services companies, including a 10-year career with Fidelity Investments. While at Fidelity, he served as Executive Vice President, Compliance and Risk, where he provided both strategic business advice and day-to-day counsel on legal, compliance and risk matters; and Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel & Chief of Litigation, where he was responsible for all of Fidelity's litigation and government investigations. Mr. Lavin also was a Partner in the Boston law firms of Hutchins, Wheeler & Dittmar and Widett, Slater & Goldman.
Mr. Lavin earned his law degree from Boston College Law School and bachelor's degree from Brandeis University. He is a member of both the Massachusetts and Florida Bar Associations.
