San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera today announced his endorsement of Judge Richard B. Ulmer to retain his seat as San Francisco Superior Court Judge.
"I want to thank the City Attorney for his endorsement and confidence in my ability to continue to serve as a San Francisco Superior Court Judge," said Judge Ulmer.
Appointed in June 2009, Judge Ulmer faces two challengers in the June 2010 Primary. He is a Stanford Law honors graduate and former partner at Latham & Watkins. For more than two decades Judge Ulmer was a trial lawyer representing some of the Bay Area's most innovative clients such as Adobe and Genentech. More recently in a suit brought by the Prison Law Office and Disability Rights Advocates, he litigated pro bono to change horrendous conditions in the California Youth Authority and juvenile halls. Unafraid to sue Governor Schwarzenegger, he spent thousands of hours fighting for the rights of the voiceless and vulnerable. His peers honored him with the "California Lawyer Attorney of the Year" award in 2006 for his work.
In addition to the City Attorney, Judge Ulmer has been endorsed by a diverse group of 48 San Francisco Superior Court Judges; Don Specter, Executive Director of the Prison Law Office; and Supervisor Sean Elsbernd -- with more endorsements coming every day. In 2008, a 22-member Bar Association committee rated the Judge "Well-Qualified."
He is a resident of San Francisco with a daughter attending St. Ignatius High School. Ulmer is also a founding member of the San Francisco Road Runners, and has completed five marathons. A campaign website: www.judgeulmer2010.com will be coming soon.
