When the nation of Haiti was devastated by a deadly earthquake on Jan. 12, 2010, the American Red Cross responded to bring desperately needed humanitarian aid. By implementing a remote deposit capture system, the organization was able to quickly process a record number of donations and bring relief funds to the areas impacted by the disaster.
With the assistance of CDS Global in Des Moines, Iowa, the American Red Cross installed a set of remote scanners in two of their Miami locations. By implementing this system with CDS Global, the American Red Cross saved from 1-3 days in donations processing time and postage costs associated with expedited mail delivery. The time saved allowed the organization to advance relief efforts, potentially saving more lives.
"In the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, many people have generously contributed to support the American Red Cross and its work to provide help and hope for the people of Haiti during their time of need," said Linda Sheaffer, senior director of development services at the American Red Cross (www.redcross.org). "Donations came in at a fast pace, especially in the days immediately following the earthquake, and it was important to have the technologies and systems to process the contributions as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to continue to get food, water and relief supplies to the people of Haiti."
