Scheafer began his U-Haul career in May 1983 as a counter person for the Stark Street U-Haul Center (704-054). In September 1984, Scheafer was promoted to assistant manager at Lombard U-Haul Center (704-056) and shortly thereafter worked his way up to general manager (GM), holding that position at Lombard U-Haul Center) and 82nd Avenue U-Haul Center (704-050). In September 1989, Scheafer transferred to become assistant to the president for U-Haul Company of Oregon (704), and then went on to become a senior U-Net Technical Support specialist. In October 1991, Scheafer became an area field manager (AFM) for U-Haul Company of Oregon (704-006), a position he held for several months before returning to the MCO in 1992, where he served as fleet maintenance manager, assistant to the president and marketing company senior staff. Then in November 1994, Scheafer became manager of Portland RERS (Shop 180), the position he held for more than 15 years before being promoted to MCP. Scheafer's proven leadership skills certainly will drive his team to success.

"Over the years, David has proven himself to be a great asset to this company," affirmed Area District Vice President (ADVP) Doug McIntier. "I'm very proud of what David has accomplished and look forward to working with him in the future."

While in charge of U-Haul operations for Portland, Scheafer plans to work closely with his team members, all of whom share a strong desire to serve customers, to share knowledge and grow upon the strengths of one another. Scheafer is challenging himself to absorb as much information as he can to become a better leader of his team. He also looks forward to continually fulfilling a top U-Haul priority of providing clean, well-maintained equipment at a price customers can afford. In assuming his role as president, Scheafer is most excited about the renewed interaction with his team members and explains that he enjoys helping others be successful.

"UHC of Portland has a great group of team members," Scheafer explained. "I hope to take my team to a whole new level, while having fun doing it."
