Vizioncore's Latest VVR Survey Validates Manufacturers' Continued use of Virtualization Technologies for Business Benefits Beyond Disaster Recovery and Backup
Vizioncore, Inc. the market leader in virtualization data protection and management solutions and wholly owned subsidiary of Quest Software, Inc., today announced the results of its latest Vizioncore Virtualization Review (VVR) survey. These results indicate that virtualization has achieved acceptance with manufacturers who are driving cost savings with innovative technology solutions. Moving beyond the basic benefits of virtualization adoption, manufacturers have shifted their focus, seeking ways to prevent downtime, gain efficiencies and reduce costs at the corporate level. The VVR uncovered these trends in a survey of worldwide manufacturers across multiple industries, where 44 percent of the respondents were process manufacturers and 28 percent were discrete manufacturers.
Manufacturers' Answer To Economic Challenges
Last year, manufacturers experienced significant pressure to keep spending under control while staying competitive. Manufacturers determined they can improve operations to help stay afloat during economic hardships and flourish during times of economic growth by applying dynamic virtualization solutions.
One such Vizioncore customer is doing just that: NewAge Industries, a manufacturer and fabricator of flexible plastic tubing and hose and a supplier of fittings and clamps. The company is utilizing Vizioncore's vRanger™ Pro 4 Data Protection Pack to address a variety of business requirements.
"Virtualization has become the cornerstone of our organization's IT strategy," said Rich MacDonald, NewAge Industries network administrator. "It provides the flexibility to respond quickly to business needs and simplifies disaster recovery while reducing hardware and energy costs."
The effectiveness of virtualization was revealed when survey participants answered the VVR question regarding the top near-term priority for their virtualization initiatives. Forty-one percent said that preventing application downtime and data loss was key, while 39 percent said achieving efficiencies and reducing costs was the top priority.
"Two years ago, these responses would have been very different," said Chris Akerberg, president and COO, Vizioncore. "We're seeing a shift in the way manufacturers are moving from trying to reduce complexity and cost in their operations to leveraging virtualization in order to initiate strategy, such as business continuity."
Virtualization - A Cost Reduction Measure
As the economy swings upward, manufacturers stand to gain more value from virtualization as technology and applications continue to improve processes. A key question in the survey asked how long respondents have relied upon virtualization. Forty-two percent revealed they have used the technology for more than 36 months, while 43 percent adopted virtualization during the last 13-36 months.
"The survey results indicate that virtualization is a key technology for the manufacturing sector, and in particular for back-office and business operations where virtualization can directly support sustainable corporate and IT initiatives by reducing the need for additional hardware," said Akerberg. "We expect it will take some time before we see factory floor IT leveraging virtualization solutions."
The survey also asked respondents how many servers their companies have virtualized; which functional business areas they have virtualized; which applications their companies are planning to support with virtualization technologies; and on which virtualization platform their companies plan to standardize.
