Today, more than 3,000 Comcast Colorado employees and their family members and friends gave back to their local communities by participating in "Comcast Cares Day." One of Colorado's largest single-day corporate volunteerism efforts, Comcast Cares Day matched volunteers with 22 of the state's nonprofits to contribute a total of more than 18,000 hours of community service.
Across the country, a total of more than 50,000 Comcast volunteers participated in the ninth annual day of service.
"I am proud of the thousands of people who joined us in enriching Colorado through Comcast Cares Day," said Scott Binder, senior vice president of Comcast's Mile High Region. "For the ninth consecutive year, our employees dedicated their time and rolled up their sleeves to help support our local nonprofits. It's inspiring to be part of such an incredible collective effort."
The day's events officially kicked off at Metropolitan State College of Denver, where Denver Councilwoman Judy Montero read a mayoral proclamation officially recognizing April 24, 2010 as "Comcast Cares Day." At Metro State, 425 Comcast employees and nearly 500 students, their friends and campus faculty collected thousands of pounds of food for Food Bank of the Rockies in addition to planting trees, painting and beautifying the campus.
In Denver, Comcast Cares Day marked the launch of "Denver Volunteers," a four-week effort aiming to encourage volunteerism among Denver residents. From April 24 to May 22, Comcast, Denver's Road Home, Concerts For Kids and Mile High United Way are asking Denver residents to contribute one day of service to a local nonprofit, with a goal of bringing together more than 5,280 volunteers.
