As part of new airline-consumer regulations that began April 29, passengers will be able to get off planes that are stuck on a tarmac for three hours, according to an article by The Associated Press. Under the new regulations, airlines are also required to provide food and water to passengers on flights stuck on the tarmac for at least two hours, as well as access to clean lavatories and emergency medical attention during the entire delay. Airline carriers can be fined up to $27,500 per passenger per incident for violating the new regulations. Some airline officials are expecting a significant increase in flight cancellations due to bad weather, as carriers try to avoid being fined for violating the 3-hour tarmac rule.
