A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for May 20 to celebrate the solar panels installed at El Chorro Lodge, an Arizona landmark and one of the area's last traditional fine-dining establishments.
"We are pleased to partner with El Chorro on this significant project," said Angiolo Laviziano, CEO of REC Solar. "Many savvy entrepreneurs are adopting solar to both lower their operating costs and to expand their sustainability objectives," added Laviziano.
"REC Solar is bringing high quality solar projects and green jobs to Phoenix. I am honored to work with REC Solar to build a truly Green Phoenix," said Mayor Phil Gordon.
The 142 kW system was constructed with 648 REC220 panels. The system will produce 5,344,719 kWh of clean electricity over its lifetime and reduce approximately 7.5M pounds of greenhouse gas. "REC Group is proud to have our modules installed on such an important landmark and will continue to work with business and government to support economic development in the region by creating jobs and making solar energy more accessible," said Regional Director USA, Marius Kroksjø, REC Group.
"So much of El Chorro is about history and respect. When we embrace opportunities like solar technology, we're respecting our surroundings and making new history for this cherished landmark," said El Chorro owner and operating partner, Jacquie Dorrance. "It's been a pleasure to work with REC on advancing El Chorro's sustainability agenda and goals." "The solar work at El Chorro is a great example of what can be accomplished when you place the environment as a priority and value the many ways it can support your business objectives," said Jerry Meek, president of Desert Star Construction. "With help from REC, El Chorro now offsets more than half of its annual energy consumption."
The celebration will include speakers from the mayor's office, REC Solar and El Chorro. There will also be a short tour of the panels and the solar monitoring system, a dedication to Jacquie Dorrance, one of El Chorro's founders, and light refreshment. About El Chorro
Situated on 11 acres in the heart of the Town of Paradise Valley, El Chorro Lodge is one of the area's last traditional fine-dining establishments. The property was originally built in 1934 by noted Valley businessman, John C. Lincoln, as the Judson School for Girls. Today, El Chorro is known for its iconic setting, historic buildings, Continental cuisine and classic ambiance and charm. Along with a change in ownership in 2009, renovations were made to honor the legacy and add comfort, function and sustainability to the design of this popular local gathering place. The original building remains as the Classroom Bar and the exterior patio remains the main focus of the restaurant. The expanded patio space includes new fire features, large custom umbrellas, new outdoor lounge spaces and expanded views of Mummy and Camelback mountains. Upgraded event facilities host up to 200. The restaurant reopened on Valentine's Day 2010 to a fully reserved house, and has continued its popularity since.
