Zimmer Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: ZMH; SIX: ZMH), a leader in musculoskeletal care, today introduced the Zimmer Natural Nail Cephalomedullary Nail System to the European market at the 11th annual EFORT (European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology) Congress. The Cephalomedullary Nail is designed to help address fractures of the femur, especially intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures. This latest addition to the Zimmer Natural Nail System joins the Tibial Nail which has been commercially available since February, 2009.

Building on the strengths of the Zimmer Natural Nail System, the Cephalomedullary Nail features an anatomically contoured implant and intuitive instrumentation capable of addressing the needs of patients of all shapes and sizes. Central to the design of the Cephalomedullary Nail is its anatomic shape which helps restore patients to their natural, pre-injury state. The Cephalomedullary Nail provides fixation to help restore the natural shape of the femur, and features a small proximal section designed to minimize the amount of bone that must be removed for nail insertion.
The Cephalomedullary Nail features Zimmer's StabiliZe Technology and optimized screw locations to help better link the nail to bone. Screws are placed throughout the implant to further secure it and maintain length and alignment during the healing process. A choice of short and long nails, as well as nails of different diameters and center-column-diaphyseal (CCD) angles are available to best match the individual anatomy of the patient. To enhance ease-of-use, the Cephalomedullary Nail instrumentation features color-coded instrumentation to aid surgical staff during the procedure.
The Zimmer Natural Nail System is a next-generation line of intramedullary nails, screws, instruments and other associated implants designed to provide stable fixation for fractured long bones during fracture healing.
