Men Are From Mustard, Women Are From Ketchup When It Comes to Grilling Season / Survey Finds Differences in Meal Choices but Agreement on Budget and Cooking Together; Walmart Helps Families Grill More with Rollbacks Everyone Can Enjoy

BENTONVILLE, Ark., June 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- As grilling season ignites the country, outdoor dining is both a true family effort and a battle over the menu, according to a new survey that looks at grilling preferences between men and women. While dads choose mustard but moms pick ketchup as their preferred condiment, men and women agree that each contributes 50 percent to meal preparation and the average family barbecue should cost between $15 to $35.(1) To help families enjoy their time together and create delicious grilled meals, Walmart is teaming up with outdoor grilling experts Bill and Cheryl Jamison on recipes and tips that satisfy mom and dad's taste buds and budget.

"Summer is the perfect time to think outside the oven," say Bill and Cheryl Jamison, award-winning authors of Smoke & Spice and other cookbooks. "The grill provides an opportunity for couples to work together in the kitchen and the grocery aisle to come up with meals everyone can enjoy without spending a lot. Plus, moms and dads can each work their own preferences into the menu."

When it comes to what lands on the grill, 81 percent of dads prefer to grill steak and vegetables while 70 percent of moms prefer to grill chicken and seafood.(1) But according to the survey, both mom and dad agree that a surf-and-turf meal on the grill would be their pick if money were no object.(1)

Summer Grilling Ingredients

According to the survey conducted by MaPS, more than 43 million families will grill at least once a week during the summer. To help create fresh and tasty dishes each week for the whole family, Walmart features rollback prices on dozens of grilling items, including:
