Aerojet THAAD Motor Provides Boost for Low Endo-Atmospheric Target Intercept Test

SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aerojet, a GenCorp company, announced the company's Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) boost motor performed nominally during a low endo-atmospheric engagement of a unitary target. This test was conducted today at the Pacific Missile Range in Kauai, Hawaii during the THAAD Flight Test 14.

THAAD is a mobile missile defense technology designed to intercept and destroy short-to-intermediate-range ballistic missiles during the final, or terminal, phase of flight. The boost motor provides the propulsion for the interceptor in the THAAD Weapons System, which is designed for broad area coverage against threats to critical assets such as population centers, industrial resources and military forces. Aerojet manufactures the THAAD boost motor for Lockheed Martin Corporation , the prime contractor and systems integrator for the Missile Defense Agency.
