BancorpSouth's Randy Burchfield Named Board President of Mississippi Main Street Association

TUPELO, Miss., July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BancorpSouth, Inc. , a $13.2 billion asset financial holding company, announced that BancorpSouth Senior Vice President and Director of Marketing Randy Burchfield of Tupelo has been elected to serve a two-year term as president of the Mississippi Main Street Association (MMSA).

MMSA is an economic development program based in historic preservation and focused on developing Mississippi's downtowns through the Main Street Four Point Approach®: organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring. It is a designated program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Mississippi Development Authority.

Bob Wilson of Jackson, Executive Director of MMSA said, "Randy and his colleagues at BancorpSouth have been extremely supportive of our work and vision at Main Street. I look forward to working with Randy and our other distinguished board members as we continue our efforts in downtown revitalization in more than 70 cities and towns in Mississippi."

Joining Burchfield as newly-elected executive officers of MMSA are Immediate Past President Chuck Ueltschey of Gulfport, Mississippi Power Company; and President-Elect and Treasurer Barry Plunkett of Jackson, Entrepreneur.

BancorpSouth Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Aubrey Patterson said, "As the largest bank headquartered in Mississippi, we encourage our team members, such as Randy, in helping support our state's economic development through local community involvement."

Patterson added, "Due to the efforts of our local and state Main Street Associations, communities throughout Mississippi have seen millions of dollars in private and public construction and investments in the downtown districts."

Burchfield is a graduate of the University of Montevallo where he received a B.S. degree in marketing management. He has over 30 years experience in bank marketing, has served as an American Institute of Banking instructor, and currently serves on the Mississippi Bankers Association Communications Council. In addition to his state-level Main Street volunteer work, Burchfield is a past president of the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association. (NEXT)

He has also served as Communications Chair and on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Northeast Mississippi. He is a member of the Tupelo Rotary Club. He and his wife, Jan, are members of First United Methodist Church in Tupelo.
