The panel of expert judges at this year's California State Fair Wine Competition have honored the 2008 Red Rock Reserve California Malbec with Best Red Wine of Show, in addition to Best of Region, Best of Class, a Double Gold medal and a 98 point score. Red Rock was one of 2,786 entries and one of 15 Malbec wines tasted by the judges.
The "Best of Show" award means that Red Rock was selected from the eleven Best of Region award winners as the best red wine overall by all judges present. Best of Show awards take precedence over all other awards.
According to Red Rock Winemaker Deb Juergenson, "It's wonderful to see that the judges agree with what wine lovers have been telling us – Red Rock Malbec is a lovely, well-balanced California Malbec that deserves to be top of mind with any red wine enthusiast."
The California State Fair Wine Competition is reputed to be the oldest (1855) and most prestigious wine competition in the U.S. Wines are tasted blind within designated categories by 26 judges over the course of 3 days.
Red Rock wines are all about balance; the point where simplicity and elegance meet to become one, where smoothness discovers structure. The stacked rocks represent the balance in the wine as well as the zen-like experience of Red Rock. In addition to Malbec, Red Rock also offers a Merlot.
