Robert K. Sheridan, President and CEO of The Savings Bank Life Insurance Company of Massachusetts (SBLI), today issued the following statement regarding the Patrick Administration's signing of House Bill 889:
"SBLI applauds the Patrick Administration's signing of House Bill 889, which levels the competitive playing field by allowing us to do business just like all the other companies selling life insurance in Massachusetts. We also are grateful to the Massachusetts House and Senate and the many individuals and organizations that supported our quest for fair treatment under the law.
"SBLI has provided safe, low-cost life insurance to the people of Massachusetts for more than 100 years. The signing of HB889 will allow us to compete, not only in Massachusetts but across the nation, with the lowest possible life insurance rates for both men and women. This legislation also stands as an example of how the Patrick Administration and the Legislature are enhancing the business climate and encouraging Massachusetts-based companies to stay here and grow.
"For over a century, SBLI has been a good corporate citizen of Massachusetts and contributor to the state's economy and quality of life. As we continue into our second century, we can now look forward to further expansion and growth in the number of jobs we provide here in the Commonwealth."
