Smart PrePay Makes Electricity Even More Affordable
dPi Energy announces Smart PrePay: a brand-new service based on the industry's newest technology to ensure our customers are billed for actual electric usage, not estimates. As always, customers can sign up for electric service with no credit check, no identification, and no deposit.
Smart PrePay technology puts control in our customers' hands. Thomas O'Roark, CEO, says, "dPi Energy is thrilled to be among the first energy companies to bring the benefits of this exciting new technology to our customers. It puts customers in control by arming them with information about their usage patterns. It also gives customers the option to determine how frequently and in what quantities they purchase electricity."
Smart PrePay customers have all the information needed to determine electricity usage and their resulting bill. With daily or weekly data available by cell phone or email, dPi Energy's customers have the ability to manage their costs in real time – not just after they've received the monthly statement.
Robert Gaston, Vice President, explains, "Smart PrePay will allow customers to pay as they go, providing the opportunity to gain near immediate feedback on their energy usage patterns. As well, the Smart PrePay system will tell customers when they are down to three days of power, allowing them to pay a smaller amount for their energy, but on a more frequent basis."
With summer peak usage just around the corner, this will be a tremendous benefit for our customers. Robert says, "This will help make the days of $300 or $400 energy bills a thing of the past. Now our customers can pay $75 or $100 each week (assuming a total monthly bill of $300 or $400) and not face the 'budget buster' summer bill."
Additionally, dPi Energy Smart PrePay customers get the benefit of the lowest prepay energy rates in Texas – a flat rate of 12.9 cents, just as summer's peak usage starts – with no monthly account fee, energy fee, or any other charges. Customers with Smart Meters can have their service activated in less than three hours, even if they have been disconnected. Also, by monitoring their usage regularly, customers using Smart Meters generally receive lower bills due to lower usage.
"Additionally, the PUC of Texas has a program in development that will provide low income customers with Home Automation Network devices," Robert says. "This will allow the customer to connect large appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and water heaters to their Advanced Meter, and provide real-time information on current usage, the cost of that usage, the amount of energy left on the meter, and the potential to control their usage. dPI will also be providing Apps for Smart Phones, which will access Smart Meter information."

Texas has approximately 1.5 million smart meters already installed. By year end, an additional 1.6 million will be in service, with an estimated 5.7 million total in 2013. Customers must have an advanced meter to be eligible for Smart PrePay.
