Lucas McCann, senior design strategist of the innovation firm Design Concepts, Inc., has been selected to present at the 2010 Ethnographic Praxis in Industry Conference (EPIC), Tokyo, Japan, September 1, 2010.
EPIC 2010, titled "Dō, The Way of Ethnography," provides a forum for researchers and strategists from around the world to discuss the theoretical and practical applications of ethnography in industry.
McCann will present the paper "The Dō and Jutsu of Strategic Ethnography: Balancing the Way and the Art of Understanding." Within the publication, McCann and co-authors Corin Ludwig, a researcher at Design Concepts, and independent researcher Matt Mullins, explore the interplay between the technical methods and the underlying philosophical spirit of understanding people in the context of design. Building on the conference theme, and using the analogy of the Japanese martial arts, the authors explore current challenges in the field of ethnography.
EPIC 2010 features presentations, workshops and numerous collaborative opportunities to investigate current thinking in ethnographic research.
