Geoffrey Canada to Deliver Keynote Address at McGraw-Hill Research Foundation's Inaugural Innovation in Education Summit / McGraw-Hill Research Foundation Gathers Educational Thought Leaders To Address Critical Issues Facing U.S. Schools

NEW YORK, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Geoffrey Canada, president and CEO of Harlem Children's Zone, will deliver a keynote address to attendees at McGraw-Hill Research Foundation's inaugural Innovation in Education Summit on Wednesday, September 29. The event brings together thought leaders from across the nation to address the challenge of turning around failing schools, the purpose of high school and many other education issues that are critical to America's ability to compete in the global economy.

Canada, whose Harlem Children's Zone serves as a national model for educational reform, is featured in the recently released documentary on the state of education in the U.S., Waiting for Superman. He is a past winner of the Harold McGraw, Jr., Prize in Education. For the benefit of Innovation in Education Summit attendees, Canada will share his personal journey in education and how his organization has used social innovation and a holistic, data-driven educational approach to transform what used to be one of New York City's most troubled neighborhoods.

With only 70% of American students receiving a high school diploma and an estimated 5% of schools in need of "improvement restructuring," the challenge of turning around our nation's most troubled and dysfunctional public schools has become an issue of national concern.

Following his keynote address, Canada will also participate in a media and audience Q&A, after which other distinguished education thought leaders will participate in panel discussions on pressing issues facing U.S. schools.

The Innovation in Education Summit will begin at 9:00 a.m. at The McGraw-Hill Companies' Corporate headquarters, located at 1221 Avenue of the Americas, New York City.
