ARCADIS' U.S. Infrastructure Division Hires Computational Fluid Dynamics Expert John Richardson

DENVER, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international design, consulting, engineering and management services company, has bolstered its U.S. Infrastructure Division with the addition of Dr. John Richardson, a prominent authority in the field of computational fluid dynamics(CFD).

As Senior Technical Expert for Hydrodynamic Modeling, Richardson will use his expertise to guide the design, management and operations of ARCADIS' water resource projects. He will draw upon more than 20 years of experience in environmental modeling, water and wastewater treatment, and hydraulic structures and diffuser design to solve flow problems and improve water-related projects.

"The addition of Dr. Richardson not only enhances ARCADIS' already robust knowledge base in water management, but his command of CFD will help us create even more innovative solutions for our clients," said Mike Carroll, Infrastructure Division President, ARCADIS U.S. "Given his experience and understanding of complex fluid systems, Dr. Richardson will have an immediate impact on the breadth of expertise can offer current and future clients."

Before joining ARCADIS, Richardson founded Blue Hill Hydraulics, a scientific consulting company focused on the development of engineering solutions to fluid flow problems. Previous to this position, Richardson served as Director of Numerical Modeling at Alden Research Laboratory in Holden, Mass., where he was responsible for all CFD work done there. Additionally, while under the supervision of renowned CFD expert Dr. C.W. (Tony) Hirt, Richardson contributed to the development of FLOW-3D, a commercially available computer software program used worldwide by scientists and engineers to study complex flow problems.

Richardson received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Lafayette College in Easton, Penn., and earned both a master's and Ph.D. degree in civil and environmental engineering from University of Maine in Orono, Maine. While at the University of Maine, Richardson performed original research in the areas of CFD and bridge scour. He is a member of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), for which he co-authored Clarifier Design Manual of Practice No. FD-8.
