Health-care equity analyst joins employee-owned investment firm
Richard Simons has joined Turner Investments as a security analyst/portfolio manager.
Mr. Simons, 29, conducts fundamental research on companies in the health-care sector and makes investment recommendations on specific stocks in that sector across all capitalization ranges for Turner's growth and long/short portfolios.
He is the 25th member of Turner's Growth Investing Team. Based in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, Turner was founded in 1990 and offers growth, global/international, core, quantitative, and alternative investments in stocks to both institutions and individuals. Turner manages more than $17 billion in assets, as of September 30, 2010.
Mr. Simons reports to Frank Sustersic, senior portfolio manager/security analyst and a principal of the firm. Other members of Turner's Health-Care Team include Heather Flick McMeekin, portfolio manager/security analyst; Vijay Shankaran, portfolio manager/security analyst; and Theresa Hoang, security analyst.
The Health-Care Team is one of five analyst teams assigned to oversee the nine stock-market sectors for the firm's growth and long/short portfolios. The other teams cover the consumer, cyclical, financial-services, and technology/producer-durables sectors. This sector orientation is a distinguishing aspect of Turner's growth-stock investment process.
Mr. Simons earned a bachelor of science degree in biophysics at the State University of New York at Geneseo in 2003 and a master of biotechnology degree in biopharmaceutical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania in 2004. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
A resident of Philadelphia, he previously worked as an analyst at Tryphon Capital Advisors.
