CARE, a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, was presented with an Innovator Award in the Best Use of Convio Open category for their innovative idea to create a donation form built specifically for mobile devices as part of their Haiti relief efforts. All award winners were recognized at a ceremony last night at Convio's Client Summit, the company's annual user conference where more than 800 nonprofit clients, partners and industry thought leaders gather as a community to share common experiences and effective strategies for nonprofits.
"In most cases, mobile text-to-give donations are received by a mobile giving foundation and then distributed to the targeted charity," explained Michael Langford, Manager of Web Development at CARE. "As a result, the charity itself does not get access to the donor's information. We thought of an innovative way to overcome this challenge and collect our constituents' information for future use. Convio provided us with the expertise and flexible, open platform that enabled our vision to become a reality."
CARE collaborated with Convio to develop a mobile donation form that facilitated mobile text-to-give, while collecting the information that the donor provided and adding it to the organization's Convio database. For Haiti alone, CARE used 85 versions of the mobile giving form to support the organization's many email appeals and corporate engagement initiatives.
Thirteen other nonprofits received Innovator Awards and were recognized in categories including Best Overall Use of Convio, Best Email Communications, Best Integrated Marketing Campaign, Best List Growth, Best Website, Best Online Fundraising Campaign, Best Advocacy Campaign, Best Special Events Fundraising, Best Peer-to-Peer Fundraising, Best Use of New Media, Common Ground CRM Visionary, and Applying CRM to Manage Your Mission. All Convio clients were eligible to submit nominations for the awards.
"This is an impressive group of winners that embrace the idea of innovation and exemplify this year's Summit theme of No Boundaries," said Gene Austin, CEO of Convio. "We are privileged to honor some of the brightest minds in the nonprofit sector today who are using technology as a catalyst to connect people with their missions reaching more people than ever before for the greater good, and very pleased to share this knowledge with the entire nonprofit sector."
