Korn/Ferry Adds Essential Leadership Skills for CIOs to Thought Leadership Portfolio / The CIO Edge: Seven Leadership Skills You Need to Drive Results, a collaboration between Korn/Ferry and Gartner, is now available on the Korn/Ferry online store

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The recently announced Korn/Ferry and Gartner book, The CIO Edge: Seven Leadership Skills You Need to Drive Results, published by Harvard Business Review Press, is now available on the Korn/Ferry online store: http://store.lominger.com/.

Written by George Hallenbeck, Director of Intellectual Property Development, Korn/Ferry Leadership and Talent Consulting; Graham Waller, Vice President and Executive Partner with Gartner Executive Programs; and Karen Rubenstrunk, formerly with Korn/Ferry's CIO practice, the book leverages three years of research into how great CIOs consistently exceed stakeholder expectations and maximize business value delivered through technology.

The book's premise centers on a consistent marker for success: the ability to forge superior working relationships to deliver business results through people, by people, and with people.

Supported by Korn/Ferry proprietary data and backed by interviews with CIOs (and their colleagues) at FedEx, P&G, American University, Ford Motor Company, Lowe's, Sony, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Aflac, and many other companies, the authors demonstrate that mastering seven "soft" skills is critical to success as a CIO. Feedback from the executives interviewed and other leadership experts indicate the book's findings are portable to the entire C-Suite.

"During the course of our research, we observed the CIOs with the best people skills used these soft skills to influence expectations well ahead of when priorities were set or a project began," Mr. Hallenbeck said. "Before a dime was budgeted, or staff time allocated, they were meeting with their colleagues and engaging in candid two-way conversations that defined what success would look like. Then they delivered against the expectations they helped set and as a result, the organization felt the investment of time and money in IT was worth it. Soft skills produced hard results."

Mr. Hallenbeck, based in Singapore, and Mr. Waller plan to conduct a multi-city tour in Asia early in 2011 to discuss the book and their research findings. Mr. Hallenbeck also regularly blogs (http://www.georgehallenbeck.blogspot.com/) about the book and other leadership research he is conducting.
