GARDENA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/06/10 -- At a special VIP reception prior to Interplast's annual Transformations Gala, Michael Donner, President and CEO of Barco's Nightingales Foundation(SM), presented the first Barco's Nightingales Foundation Award for Nursing Excellence to Dawn Yost, R.N. Ms. Yost will also be recognized today during the gala, which helps raise funds for life-changing surgeries for children with clefts, disabling burns and hand injuries.
"While there are many accolades recognizing the tremendous professional work of nurses, until now, none have focused on those who go above and beyond their professional duties by volunteering," said Barco's Nightingales Foundation, President and CEO Michael Donner. "Through this award, we hope not only to commend those nurses who are leaders in volunteerism, but to encourage more in the profession to become involved with philanthropic organizations like Interplast."
The Barco's Nightingales Foundation Award for Nursing Excellence honors nurses who not only have contributed to their profession, but who are committed to humanitarian work as volunteers donating their time and professional skills to those in need. Barco's Nightingales Foundation will donate 10 surgeries for children to Interplast in Ms. Yost's name. In addition, she will receive a unique custom designed glass vase and personal gift. The vase, based on artwork created to honor the 9-11 firefighters of New York City, depicts two hands coming together. These hands represent the hands and hearts of nurses as they give to those in need through volunteerism.
A registered nurse, Ms. Yost has devoted two weeks every year to providing operating room nursing care on surgical team trips with Interplast and also chairs the Interplast Nursing Committee, which helps guide the organization's nursing policy. Ms. Yost earned bachelor's degrees in nursing and dental hygiene from West Virginia University. She is the pre-operative services manager of nursing operations and the sterile processing department at West Virginia University's Ruby Memorial Hospital.
