VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/09/10 -- Executive Search Dating, Vancouver's premier matchmaking service for busy professionals, is encouraging local singles to take advantage of the 'Holidating' season this year. Although Christmas and New Year's are traditionally looked upon as a time to connect with family and friends, it can also be a great time for singles to 'holidate' and meet someone new according to Paddi Rice, President and Owner of Executive Search Dating.
"With all the Christmas parties and holiday festivities at this time of year, it can be a fun and exciting time for singles," says Rice. "In fact, November and December are typically two of our busiest months for arranging dates for our clients. Many clients tell us that dating over the holidays can be a nice break from the non-stop family and friends events, not to mention a welcome respite from the media message onslaught, which always seems more focussed on images of happy couples and families and NOT on singles. I think a lot of singles have decided to take back a little holiday season happiness for themselves!"
Here are Executive Search Dating's Top 7 'Holidating' Do's and Don'ts for Vancouver Singles:
Do:
1. Work the Christmas Party Circuit: the holiday season is THE peak season
for home and office parties... get yourself invited to as many parties
as you can, or throw a party yourself and ask your friends to invite
some of their single friends. Also, try tagging along to a friend's
office party. This can be a great way to meet single professionals in a
friendly environment that's conducive to starting up a conversation.
2. Use the year's BEST approach line: the holidays comes complete with the
year's best approach line: 'Merry Christmas!'. Use this can't miss
approach line at a Christmas party and you'll be meeting new and
interesting people in no time! Like all good things, however, this
approach line does have an expiry date, so put it to good use before the
holidays are through.
3. Meet in December, date in January: meeting some new people during the
holiday season is a great idea, but consider delaying your first real
'date' until early in the New Year. This strategy offers two distinct
benefits: it avoids having to subject your date to the pressure of
meeting your family and friends at a holiday event; and it will help
dispel the post holiday blues that inevitably come in January, by giving
you something exciting to look forward to.
4. Get outdoors: once you have met someone new, the winter weather offers a
couple of can't miss date ideas for Vancouver singles: try and gondola
ride up Grouse Mountain followed by an invigorating skate on the
mountaintop Ice Skating Pond. Cap it off with dinner, drinks and the
best view in all of Vancouver at the Altitude Bistro. Another Vancouver
winter dating classic: a snow adventure day at Whistler Village. With
the newly upgraded Sea-to-Sky highway, a Whistler day trip is much
easier and safer then in years gone by.
Don't:
1. Make a scene at your own office Christmas party: office parties can and
should be fun, but drinking too much and getting carried away with John
or Susy from accounting can be a career limiting move. If you do feel
the need to party hard at a Christmas office party best do so at a
friend's office party, which has all the Christmas party upside with
none of the potentially career limiting downside.
2. Meet the parents: if you've just met someone, don't feel compelled to
invite them to your family holiday events... it can put undue strain on
a burgeoning romance. There will be a time and place to connect your new
flame with your family, but the most important thing initially is to
focus on getting to know each other.
3. Over-gift: although gift giving is a holiday season tradition, don't
feel compelled to splurge on an expensive gift for someone you've just
met. You may risk making your partner feel guilty and/or pressured for
not reciprocating. If you've just met someone new a simple, classic gift
is more appropriate: perhaps a card, flowers or tickets to a Christmas
event or concert that you would both enjoy.
