Sun Life Stadium Hosts 'Bottles to Jobs Day' to Commemorate Veterans Day and Launch The PepsiCo Dream Machine Recycling Program

MIAMI, Nov. 12, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The PepsiCo Dream Machine recycling initiative has partnered with Sun Life Stadium, home of the National Football League's Miami Dolphins, to make recycling bins and interactive kiosks available to stadium visitors. Five Dream Machine interactive kiosks and more than 70 static bins are now available throughout the stadium and parking lot to capture plastic and aluminum beverage containers.

"We are proud to partner with PepsiCo on this important initiative that positively impacts our environment, while helping post 9/11 veterans," said Adam Grossman, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for the Miami Dolphins. "The Dream Machine complements our tribute to veterans at this Sunday's game, along with our ongoing green initiatives at Sun Life Stadium."

On Sunday, November 14 at 'Bottles to Jobs Day,' fans will be encouraged to begin recycling plastic bottles and aluminum cans in a Dream Machine every time they are at the stadium. The more containers captured in a Dream Machine, the more funding PepsiCo will provide to the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV), a national program offering free training in entrepreneurship and small business management to post-9/11 U.S. veterans with disabilities. During the game, there will be a special in-stadium 'Salute to Veterans' featuring J.R. Martinez, a Florida State University EBV graduate and Dream Machine program ambassador. Martinez is now an actor and currently plays the role of Brot Monroe on ABC's All My Children.

The Dream Machine recycling initiative - a multi-year collaboration between PepsiCo , Waste Management , Greenopolis and Keep America Beautiful - is designed to give people a convenient and rewarding way to recycle on-the-go, and drive success against PepsiCo's goal of increasing the U.S. beverage container recycling rate from 34 percent to 50 percent by 2018. Dream Machine kiosks are computerized receptacles that operate on the Greenopolis platform and use an innovative point system to reward individuals for every bottle or can they recycle in a kiosk. Users can redeem their points for discounts on entertainment, dining and travel, by visiting http://www.greenopolis.com/. Since the program launched in April 2010, static bins and interactive kiosks have been placed in 14 states at high-traffic locations such as gas stations, shopping malls, sports arenas and university campuses.

"We are excited that Sun Life Stadium has joined the Dream Machine program, giving fans a convenient and rewarding option for recycling on game day, as well as an opportunity to support those who served and were wounded in the U.S. armed forces," said Jeremy Cage, Senior Vice President of Innovation and Insights, PepsiCo Beverages Americas. "We're confident that people in South Florida will embrace the Dream Machine program because of how good it feels to do good."

"Through the Greenopolis Recycling System, we are creating a new approach that makes sustainable living fun, interactive and rewarding for everyone who participates," said Paul Ligon, managing director for Greenopolis. "For the Dream Machine program to reach its most ambitious recycling goals, we need it to be fun and convenient, and this technology is achieving just that."
