Official Public Dedication of the Soleri Bridge and Plaza
Scottsdale Public Art honored the renowned Italian artist, architect, and philosopher who is celebrated worldwide for his forward-thinking concept of arcology on Saturday, December 11 at the Scottsdale Waterfront.
One of the most imaginative thinkers of our time, Paolo Soleri has dedicated his life to addressing the ecological and social concerns raised by modern urban existence. Soleri's career contains significant accomplishments in the fields of architecture and urban planning, and his groundbreaking philosophical writings on arcology, the co-presence of architecture with ecology.
On Saturday, December 11, 2010, downtown Scottsdale witnessed history in the making at the noon dedication of Paolo Soleri's first completed bridge. Those in attendance were honored to be some of the first to walk the Soleri Bridge and Plaza.
Over a thousand people joined Mayor Jim Lane, artist Paolo Soleri, representatives from Cosanti Foundation and Scottsdale Public Art in celebrating the completion of this new landmark at Scottsdale Waterfront. Speakers, live music, children's activities, Community Waterfall and atmospheric performance by Vessel, directed by Rachel Bowditch, experimental analog electro machine music by Elektrobahn, and artists from Scottsdale Artists School painted live. The ceremony took place at Scottsdale Waterfront, just west of Scottsdale Road just south of Camelback in downtown Scottsdale. The dedication celebration took place from 11am to 2pm, with remarks held at 12pm.
