TRENTON, NJ -- (Marketwire) -- 12/17/10 -- The New Jersey Utilities Association (NJUA) announced that between April and December 2010 its "United to Feed Those in Need" campaign contributed monetary donations equivalent to 795,000 meals* and approximately 2,000 pounds of food to New Jersey's food banks.
Eight months ago, State officials including Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno; Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34); Assemblyman David Rible (R-11); and Assemblywoman Annette Quijano (D-20) joined NJUA to launch the statewide campaign at the State House in Trenton. NJUA pledged its commitment to donate to food banks that are serving an increasing number of people living in NJUA member companies' service territories. Participating NJUA member companies conducted food drives directed to utility employees and customers and/or made direct corporate financial contributions.
"New Jersey's investor-owned utilities responded to the needs of New Jersey's food banks and united together to fight hunger and proved just how much can be accomplished when organizations work together," said Dennis Doll, NJUA chairman and chairman, president and chief executive officer of Middlesex Water Company.
Doll continued, "On behalf of the NJUA Board of Directors I thank all of the utility companies' employees and customers that made donations and encourage people that can to continue to donate."
NJUA consists of investor-owned utility companies that provide essential water, wastewater, electric, natural gas and telecommunications services to New Jersey residents and businesses.
*According to "Feeding America" every dollar donated equates to 7 meals.
