Six more cellsites under construction throughout island
Spiraling smartphone usage is driving rapid MPULSE wireless network expansions
GTA TeleGuam has added four new cellsites in high-use areas in Guam to stay ahead of growing demand for its MPULSE wireless Internet access as more of its customers switch to smartphones and adopt wireless data services.
GTA TeleGuam has activated new cellsites in Tumon, Dededo, Tiyan, and Micronesia Mall. The company also plans to add six more cellsites throughout the island by next April to keep up with rapidly growing 3G and GSM wireless demand.
Additional capacity through the four new cellsites will ensure faster data connections for sending and receiving messages and downloading information from the Internet.
"As smartphones become more popular, customers are discovering the benefits of wireless broadband connectivity," said Andrew Gayle, executive vice president of product development and management for GTA TeleGuam. "As more customers use our wireless data services, GTA TeleGuam will be 'Always There' to add network capacity and maintain our 3G wireless network leadership.
"GTA TeleGuam will continue to make necessary network investments to ensure the most reliable communications services for our customers," Gayle said.
The newest cellsites are in addition to the 3G wireless capacity that GTA TeleGuam added last year throughout the island.
GTA TeleGuam's wireless network expansion is part of the company's ongoing multi-million dollar overall network investment to stay ahead of growing demand for integrated communications services. In addition to wireless, GTA TeleGuam offers high-speed Internet access, digital television service, and landline phone service.
GTA TeleGuam launched its 3G mobile broadband service in 2009.
Since its privatization in January 2005, the company has invested about $85 million in Guam's communications infrastructure.
The smartphone leader in Guam, GTA TeleGuam is the only authorized provider to offer customers the choice of iPhone, BlackBerry and Android.
Smartphones allow users to access the Internet, send email, browse the Web, stream music, download videos, send photos, text, talk and more.
Smartphone prices start at less than $100 with a two-year service agreement. Customers can get discounts when they bundle their smartphones with other GTA TeleGuam communication services, including local and long-distance phone service, high-speed Internet access and GUdTV, short for Guam Digital Television.
GTA TeleGuam offers a wide range of smartphones from top manufacturers to best match consumer needs, preferences and budgets. These include Nokia, Research in Motion (BlackBerry), Apple (iPhone), HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Palm, Sony Ericsson, and Pantech.
GTA TeleGuam was first to introduce the popular BlackBerry smartphone on Guam in September 2006. The company is the only authorized carrier for the iPhone in Guam.
